Spring planning: Patterns, patterns, everywhere

Can you tell we are excited to get ready for spring? During the cold winters, it’s fun to look forward to heating up the patio with a new look! And since March 20th is the official first day of spring you can never plan too far ahead!

World of color

Start with thinking color scheme and what you will use your outdoor area for.  Do you need new cushions, a new piece to freshen up, new flowers? Will you entertain family gatherings, kids’ parties, and neighbor get togethers?

All in the family

Once you have your color inspiration, think about also using a similar pattern or color family as an easy way to tie in separate spaces for a cohesive look.

Mix it up

On trend for this year are bright and bold Spanish style patterns, a great opportunity to use an interesting pattern outdoors.
Translated into fabric, these patterns can be tailored to your taste, if loud and wild is not your style, try sea greens and blues paired with cream for a more neutral and relaxing tone.

2015 Pantone Color of the Year

One decorating tip to freshen up your patio area is to add a new color. A great one to try is Marsala, Pantone's 2015 Color of the Year. One of the traits attributed to this color is its sophisticated, natural earthiness. A great complement to your outdoor palette!

Behind the Design

We love a good behind-the-scenes look at the process, whether it be a home remodel, a movie production or in this case furniture design.  Many don’t realize the steps it takes for a product to come to fruition and be sold for purchase at your fingertips.  Today, we are taking a peek into the design and development of the new Brown Jordan Form collection designed and sold exclusively at The Home Depot.

Initial concept sketches show the design started as a fully cushioned concept with a variety of back leg options. Once the decision was made to use textilene straps, hand-woven on the back and seat, we did not want to hide this beautiful detail and love the comfort it provides.

CAD drawings are then created and sent to the manufacturing facility for prototype sampling. Soon after, the fun part begins with the color and material selection!

All of the materials and colors were developed exclusively for this collection. The finish and fabric swatches go through multiple rounds of revisions to get the look just so. We love the clean feel of the tonal textilene strapping with the subtle contrast of the bronze frame finish.  Our favorite element is the added faux burnished brass details inspired by midcentury styling, this finish was no easy feat to achieve!  The table surface was inspired by textural concrete and adds just the right element to the collection.  Altogether, the finishes, materials and style, effortlessly capture the feel of Brown Jordan.

Prototype sampling begins at our Juarez, Mexico facility .  The first view of the ‘rough’ prototype chair frames.

This chair is in the final stages, craftsman are weaving the straps on the seat and back.  Many more rounds of samples with minor modifications continue to happen until the collection is perfect.  This is when a lot of ‘sit’ testing happens (shown below).
